Vacancy

Vacancy

Who's in it: Luke Wilson, Kate Beckinsale

What's it about: On the way home, David(Wilson) and Amy(Beckinsale) take a few back roads to pass traffic. They're marriage is on the rocks and they are fighting. They stop at a garage to get the engine looked at. Their car then breaks down a mile down the road. They walk back to the garage and decide to stay at the motel there. They then find out that the room they are in has had murders filmed in it many times. Now it is their turn to try and avenge the deaths of the people before and themselves.

What I Think: I like Luke Wilson. Some of his best performances are in little known films. He really pulled out the character of David and even Amy. The story was actually really good too! I loved the twists and the smarts and everything about it. However, I didn't like the ending. I won't say what happened but I found it a bit cheesy. As for Beckinsale, I think that she should stick to Underworld. I think that she does so well in that kind of setting and story. This film didn't bring out the true talent that she possesses.

Henry Poole Is Here

Henry Poole Is Here

Who's in it: Luke Wilson, Radha Mitchell, Adriana Barraza, Morgan Lily

What's it about: Henry Poole(Wilson) is diagnosed with a life threatening disease. He moves into a new house to die in but a stain on the side of his house raises Hell, or should I say Heaven! Esperanza(Barraza), the next door neighbor, recognizes the stain to be the torso of Jesus Christ and begins to tell people tocome and worship it. Henry begins to get angry at the mobs of people attending services at his house. The other neighbor, Dawn(Mitchell), and her mute daughter, Millie(Lily), start to believe in the stain after Millie touches the wall and begins to speak. Henry just wants to be in left in peace.

What I Think: I love Luke Wilson in every movie that he's ever been in. This movie, however, has to be one of my favourites with him in it. Being Catholic, yet understanding to other religions and beliefs, I can see both sides of the story. I was very surprised that someone would do such a movie though. This wasn't heavily advertised and I can see why. The acting was fairly good, but there wasn't much dialogue alot of the movie. The setting was near perfect, being in a late, friendly neighborhood.

The Family Stone

The Family Stone

Who's in it: Sarah Jessica Parker, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes

What's it about: Meredith(Parker) and Everett(Mulroney) are in love. For Christmas, Meredith goes to meet Everett's family. The family doesn't like her and they want her gone. When Everett tells his mom, Sybil(Keaton), that he's going to propose, everything gets out of whack. Amy(McAdams) is trying her hardest to get rid of her while Ben(Wilson) is trying to get her to stay. Meredith invites her sister Julie(Danes) to accompany her after a few days of the family and Everett falls in lover with her instead. Kelly(Nelson) is trying his hardest to keep everything under control.

What I Think: Though I'm not a huge fan of Sarah Jessica Parker, I must say that I think she did outstanding in this movie. I'm a sucker for Luke Wilson and that is what really sold the movie to me. Although I didn't like the fact that Everett and Julie end up falling in love, the movie is definetely worth seeing!
