Who's in it: Heather Donahue, Josh Leonard, Michael Williams

What's it about: Three film student friends, Heather(Donahue), Josh(Leonard), and Mike(Williams), head into the woods around Burkittsville, Maryland. This is where legend has it that the Blair Witch lives. The trio go in making a documentary, but little did they know it would be of their last days. They lose the map and start to make circles in the woods. When Josh goes missing, Heather and Mike try their best to keep their sanity. Everything is on film and they are determined to find the Blair Witch and discover what else is behind the legend.

What I Think: This was a pretty scary movie. I had to double check online and make sure that it wasn't real. In a way I kind of wanted it to be real so I wouldn't feel as if I wasted my time watching the movie, but wanted it to be fake because that would be frightening. I enjoyed that the actors were acting out of instinct. They didn't really have to act but portray certain emotions and I thought that they did extremely well! The setting was a great place to be for the movie. I didn't like that alot of the movie was black, but I did like the different angles and the movement of the camera.

Who's in it: Trevor Wright, Agnes Bruckner, Arjay Smith

What's it about: Caleb(Wright), Jessica(Bruckner), and Tanner(Smith) are all on their way to Caleb and Jessica's new home. Tanner has been Caleb's best friend since they were little and Tanner doesn't like the fact that his best friend is getting married to Jessica. They get tired and decide to stop at a motel in the middle of nowhere. Tanner sneaks into one room while Jessica and Caleb pay for their own. Tanner then figures out that his friend are being taped. The trio need to run for their lives but the killers don't want to get caught.

What I Think: This was not better than the first one. This was supposed to be the first videotaped killing of the Vacancy deaths that were shown in the first movie. I enjoyed the acting a little bit. Bruckner was the best of the three young people. Smith was probably the worst of them. Wright wasn't in the movie too much seeing as he was a minor character so I wasn't able to really see his skills. Most of his scenes were yelling. I liked being able to see how the actual taping got started.

Who's in it: Luke Wilson, Kate Beckinsale

What's it about: On the way home, David(Wilson) and Amy(Beckinsale) take a few back roads to pass traffic. They're marriage is on the rocks and they are fighting. They stop at a garage to get the engine looked at. Their car then breaks down a mile down the road. They walk back to the garage and decide to stay at the motel there. They then find out that the room they are in has had murders filmed in it many times. Now it is their turn to try and avenge the deaths of the people before and themselves.

What I Think: I like Luke Wilson. Some of his best performances are in little known films. He really pulled out the character of David and even Amy. The story was actually really good too! I loved the twists and the smarts and everything about it. However, I didn't like the ending. I won't say what happened but I found it a bit cheesy. As for Beckinsale, I think that she should stick to Underworld. I think that she does so well in that kind of setting and story. This film didn't bring out the true talent that she possesses.

Who's in it: Zohra Lampert, Barton Heyman, Kevin O'Connor, Mariclare Costello

What's it about: After being released from mental hospital, Jessica(Lampert), her husband, Duncan(Heyman), and her friend, Woody(O'Connor), move into an old spooky house. Jessica had been treated for chrionic fright and seeing things. In the house, there's a young woman who has been camping out there. Her name is Emily(Costello). The men start to fall in love with Emily and they only think that whatever Jessica says is crazy. Jessica is sure that Emily is a vampiric ghost coming after her.

What I Think: This was actually a pretty scary movie. It was released in 1971 and I thought that it was going to be a crappy old movie. Sure the effects sucked and the voiceovers that were put in were crappy, but the story and setting itself was great. I did not like Lampert because she seemed so manly. I thought that she did well though. Not fond of Costello's character but I admire her acting. She did a wonderful job. The men weren't really part of the story except boy toys.

What's it about: After Anna's(Browning) mother(Massar) died in a fiery explosion that she can't remember, she went to a mental hosptial. After only 10 months, she's returning home to her father(Strathairn) and his new girlfriend, Rachel(Banks). Anna and her sister, Alex(Kebbel), are starting to believe that it was actually Rachel who killed their mother. Anna starts to see her dead mother and beleives that the ghostly matron is trying to help solve her murder. Anna is getting closer and closer to the answer, but could her allegations be wrong?

What I Think: Browning was superb in this movie. I'm beginning to see Banks in so many more movies and am starting to like her more and more. I really liked Kebbel and she sort of reminded me of Mandy Moore. Their looks and facial expressions were very alike. As for the storyline, very well thought out. Every last detail was planned perfectly. More movies like this need to be made. I was amazed at the precision of detail and the completely rounded characters of Anna and Alex. Great plot in the story too. There were actually parts of the movie that made me scream and, seeing as I had headphones on, my siblings would jump each time.

The Slaughter

What's it about: Dana(Ellis), Tyler(Erioski), Iggy(Kilberg), Heather(Bach), Brandon(Wood), and Razz(Beck) are hired to clean an old, abandoned house for a weekend. The gang of them uncover an ancient spellbook and release a She Demon(Esquivel) into the world. After the Demon is released, she begins to knock off the friends one by one. When only Dana and Iggy are left, the witch, Madam Izriah(Derrek), herself is reincarnated. The last step for her permanent reincarnation is an ultimate sacrifice, but with only two people left in the house, the odds don't look good.

What I Think: Again with the poorly made horror film. I am disappointed that I keep picking crap to watch. The entire movie was completely stupid. It had the potential with the storyline, but then the acting and attempt at comedy towards the end just killed it. If the dialogue had just been shortened, maybe it wouldn't have been so stupid. The acting was horrid, but the setting was great. I will repeat that the movie had potential, but bad decisions put it under and out. The effects were ridiculously stupid. Makeup artist had skills. Special effects artist need to stop. I thought that some of the nudity was just not needed.

Coraline

Who's in it: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., Keith David

What's it about: A new house means a new life to Coraline Jones(Fanning). Her mother(Hatcher) and father(Hodgman) are working on a plant information guide and are never wanting to do anything with Coraline. She walks around and meets her neighbor, Wybie(Bailey). Wybie gives her a doll that he found that looks exactly like Coraline. When she finds a small door that leads her to another world with a fmaily the exact opposite of hers, she begins to become happy. The only problem is they have buttons for eyes. The cat(David) that she meets tells her of the awful side of her new world and now it's up to her to save her family from the evil on the other side of the door.

What I Think: This is based on the novella by Neil Gaiman. I love the claymation of this movie. I saw the trailer for this one and couldn't help but want to see the rest of it. My boyfriend and I saw it for Valentine's Day. I was very excited to see something that was very different and rarely made anymore. The storyline was perfect and the twists were great. I was completely shocked at times at the movie because the trailer didn't really give anything away except that it was going to be a great movie. I love the voiceovers and the different actors and actresses were perfect for each role.

Who's in it: Christina Campanella, Don Wood

What's it about: When Kathryn(Campanella) and Rick(Wood) move in together in the middle of nowhere, things are never the same. They moved in and were happy and then strange things began to occur. Rick came to begin writing his novel but can't seem to get his mind straight so begins drinking. Kathryn is working at a local library but becomes sick and can't get out of bed. It is then when Rick decides to leave her. Kathryn starts to get weird calls and hear strange sounds around her room, but can't figure out where they're coming from or how to end them.

What I Think: Along with the movies Sight and The Attic this movie was completley crap. It had and has the potential to be a great movie. It had a great storyline. The acting, however, was crap. The "horror" was awful and just not scary. The supernatural happenings could have been done much better. The ending was a little rushed I think. They should've prolonged it a little bit instead of showing Campanella and her rushing through her last line.

The Reaping

Who's in it: Hilary Swank, David Morrissey, AnnaSophia Robb, Idris Elba

What's it about: There is something going on in the town of Haven. Doug(Morrissey) has called upon Katherine(Swank) and Ben(Elba) to help them out. The strange things happening are similar to the plagues that wrought Egypt from God and the town believes that it was becuase of a witch like girl, Loren(Robb), who lives in the woods. As Katherine begins to learn more about the town and it's history, she starts to doubt that it's really Loren who's behind the events. Is it really a homeless woodsgirl or actually a cult riden country town?

What I Think: Hilary Swank was great in this movie. I love watching movies with her in them! The story was pretty interesting and I enjoyed the mystery that was behind the movie. I think that Robb is good, but this movie isn't her best. It's not that she was bad, it's that she hardly had anything in the movie except for a few little shots here and there. Morrissey was great I thoughtbut I really think he could've done better. Kudos for effects and for Swank!

What's it about: When 5 year old Carol Anne(O'Rourke) begins talking to a spirit within her house, her parents Steve(Nelson) and Diane(Williams) begin to wonder what's going on. After chairs begin to move and other weird things begin to happen, they call Dr. Lesh(Straight) to come and find out what's happening. Carol Anne is taken by the spirits and Dr. Lesh is left wondering what will happen to the family. The family is only wanting to have their little girl back in their arms.


What I Think: Given that this movie is one of the older ones, I was impressed by the computer graphics. The story was great but I think that the acting lacked in some parts. The events within the story were thought out and creative. The ending was very entertaining I thought. I think that the way that they decided to end the whole thing was pretty funny. It's hard to watch an older movie like this with my generations knowledge and not critisize it alot. For it's time, I think that this movie was done very well.

Who's in it: Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, Mary Beth Peil


What's it about: Ben(Sutherland) has a new job. His job is to make sure that kids stay out of a dangerous burnt down building. In the building are hundreds of mirrors and Ben begins to see things inside of them. The things inside are beginning to scare his family and they killed his sister. When his wife, Amy(Patton), begins to see them as well, Ben needs to satisfy the mirrors with the one person they want. Anna Esseker(Peil) had a schizophrenic demon transferred from her to the mirrors during a treatment. Ben must find Anna and get the demons out of the mirrors before they kill his family.


What I Think: At first I thought that this movie was going to be amazing. After watching it, I'm not so sure. This really had me confused alot of the time. I was impressed by few of the effects, but one in particular I was very proud of. There was a part where there was a person burning alive, but there were no flames, but the bubbling skin was awesomely accurate. I think that the story lacked some in plot, not to mention it was hard to follow at some times. I do like Sutherland and I was glad that he starred in the movie. The fact that he was in it made it barable.

Who's in it: Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Erbe, Zachary David Cope, Jennifer Morrison

What's it about: Tom(Bacon) and Maggie(Erbe) have had a great life, but after being hypnotized, Tom is seeing things and hearing things that he never did before. A ghostly girl is appearing to him inside of his house. He finds out that this girl is Samantha Kozac(Morrison), who supposedly ran away 6 months ago. His son, Jake(Cope), is also seeing this girl. When trying to reverse the hypnosis, Samantha tells him only one word and that's 'Dig'. The visions keep happening and appear to be getting worse so he does what he has to in order to make them stop.

What I Think: I love Kevin Bacon and pretty much everything that he does. This movie was interesting and I loved the dialogue that was used and the story was very intriguing and I enjoyed the acting. Everything about this movie was great and I enjoyed the excitement that came with it. The plot of the story was easy to understand yet you were still able to catch the mystery that was inside. I was impressed by the whole of the movie and the setup of everything that was put into it.

Boo

Who's in it: Trish Coren, Jilon Ghai, Josh Holt, Nicole Rayburn, Happy Mahaney, Michael Samluk, Dig Wayne, M. Steven Felty

What's it about: Five friends, Jessie(Coren), Kevin(Ghai), Freddy(Holt), Marie(Rayburn), and Emmett(Mahaney), set up in an old abandoned hospital for a Halloween scare. The place has a story behind it though. Way back when, Jacob(Felty) set the old hospital on fire. Now, inside are the ghosts of those who died inside. With the help of Allan(Samluk) and Arlo(Wayne) the teenagers are going to make sure that Jacob doesn't get loose into the world that he was forever locked away from.

What I Think: I personally thought that this was poorly made. The storyline didn't make too much sense and the all of the actors weren't very talented. The blood was completely fake looking and you could really tell. The effects were not well made and the audio wasn't at all scary. I was expecting a lot more than what I got. Usually such a simple title would have something more than this, but I guess with this movie, that's wrong. I

Boogeyman

What's it about: After a traumatic experience in his childhood, Tim(Watson) has had a fear of the Boogeyman. It's beginning to really get into his personal life with his girlfriend Jessica(Mussett). After his mother passes away, he goes back to house where it all began. He meets Franny(Bartusiak) who also has the fear of the Boogeyman. With his childhood friend, Kate(Deschanel), Tim tries to get rid of the Boogeyman once and for all. The only question: How far is Tim willing to go to destroy almost every child's fear?

What I Think: Honestly, this movie was not as good as I had anticipated. I was expecting some awesome graphics, but I was left very disappointed. For the time that we are in now and the technology that is available to us, I was wanting an amazing Boogeyman that would continue to possibly haunt our dreams. Aside from that, the acting was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was great and I certainly don't think that any of them deserve an award, but it was alright for an alright movie. I wasn't surprised by any of the surprises. I am glad that I didn't go and see this in theatres when it was in theatres.

Saw 5

Who's in it: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Scott Patterson

What's it about: Jigsaw(Bell) has left someone to continue the work that he started. Officer Mark Hoffman(Mandylor) is living the legacy of Jigsaw to its fullest when he starts a new maze for 5 unfortunate souls. During this he is also luring Agent Strahm(Patterson) into his greatest creation ever. Hoffman has learned everything from Jigsaw and he wants to share the knowledge with as many people as he can. He wants an appreciation for life and the thankfulness for redemption to spread among people. The final scene brings the worst possible thought of deception and trickery known to man.

What I Think: This is by far the best of the Saw series. I was amazed at the diverse types of torturous devices. I really think that they reall outdid themselves this time. The way that Strahm was unraveling the true mystery of Jigsaw and the apprenticeship of Hoffman was outstanding. It was truely breathtaking from the beginning scene to the finale. I was cringing at parts but applauding the plot the whole way through. I mostly hope that this is not the end. I continue to be awed by Saw and really anticipate a sixth movie. Each just keeps getting better. I can't wait for most twists for my mind to conceive and attempt to solve. Just when you thought this movie couldn't get any better, the final scene will absolutely blow your mind.

Who's in it: Kevin Bacon, Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend, Courtney Love, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Dakota Fanning

What's it about: Always wanting to bring families back together, Joe(Bacon) is targeting a new family. Karen(Theron) and Will(Townsend) are separated by a presentation that Will must make, leaving Karen with their only daughter Abigail(Fanning). Joe, his wife Cheryl(Love), and his other partner Marvin(Taylor) work together to keep the family apart for 24 hours in order to make them realize that they need to spend more time together. What Joe didn't find out is that Abigail has severe athsma and must be medicated several times every day. After finding this out, the family works together to bring everything to a stop before someone gets hurt.

What I Think: I have to say that the one thing that I really liked about this movie was Kevin Bacon. He really brought out his character. I also loved the spiderweb tattoo that was around his bellybutton. I loved the acting from everybody. Theron is absolutely gorgeous, as is Love. Townsend's accent left me breathless and his wit left me wanting to know what he would do in other situations. They really sold themselves in this movie and I want to definitely see more movies with the like of them in it.

Who's in it: Alan Cumming, David Boreanaz

What's it about: John(Cumming) has always wanted fame and fortune. He has always loved music and helping other people. After allowing Sebastian(Boreanaz) into his home, John begins to obsess and fawn over him. He thinks that he is sheltering the greatest writer that ever lived, even though he hasn't seen one page of the novel. When he helps in the murder of young Sebastian, he turns in the novel under his own name. Riden with guilt, he begins to see and hear Sebastian around his home and other places he happens to be.

What I Think: I might tell you that this movie is originally under the name Suffering Man's Charity. I just so happen to love Alan Cumming and everything he's in and everything he does. I was surprised by this movie and all of the sexuality that happened to be in it. I thought that the story needed a bit more work before it was produced, but all in all, it was a great movie. Not one for a family, but more of a movie to watch by yourself when you don't plan on doing anything for a while. You need to pay close attention to the movie to really get it. Boreanaz did a great job, in my opinion, and deserves special appraisal for being put through his torturous scene in women's underclothing.

The Eye

What's it about: Having been blind since the age of 5, Sydney(Alba) has learned her way around the city using her other 4 senses. However, after a cornea transplant she begins to see things. Things that aren't real. Things that aren't seen by the normal human eye. Things that are dead. Seeing the deaths of people over and over again has her searching for help from her therapist Dr. Faulkner(Nivola). Together they reveal the mysterious life of the woman who had the eyes before her.

What I Think: This was a great performance from Alba. I've never been a huge fan of her, but after this movie I give her more credit. Acting as a blind person is difficult to do, yet she passed with flying colours. The plot of this story was amazingly well played out. I love every second of it. It made me jump at some parts, but never made me scream.

The Strangers

Who's in it: Scott Speedman, Liv Tyler, Gemma Ward, Kip Weeks, Laura Margolis

What's it about: After Kristen(Tyler) rejects a proposal by James(Speedman), they go back to his family's summer home. Around 4am, a knock comes to the door and a girl(Ward) asks for someone who they don't know. James leaves and then the girl comes back and knocks again. Kristen begins to hear weird noises around the house and then a masked man(Weeks) appears inside. She calls and asks James to come back. When he gets back, they're in for a thrilling night when a third attacker(Margolis) comes into the picture. A bloody massacre follows as the night progresses and Kristen and James attempt to escape the madness

What I Think: I think that this movie was really creepy. It made it worse to know that it was based on true events. I did some research and read that the Hoyt family had all information on the Internet deleted about the case so don't bother attempting to dig it up. This movie had all of the classic scares without too much gore. I really enjoyed this but I'm kind of scared to wake up at 4am anytime soon. Amazing performances from Speedman and Tyler. Kudos to the both of you.

Who's in it: Kristen Bell, Iam Somerhalder, Jonathan Tucker

What's it about: A virus is taking over the city and killing everyone it comes in contact with. It all begins when Josh(Tucker) hacks into a hackers computer and released an uncontrollable frequency that takes form and comes through anything electronic. Mattie(Bell) witnesses Josh's suicide and isn't the same afterwards. When she starts getting weird messages from his computer, she goes to find it. It has been sold to Dexter(Somerhalder) and he finds disturbing images and videos on it. After finding a USB drive with a solution to the virus, Mattie and Dexter go to shut it down.

What I Think: This movie was pretty weird. The acting, in my opinion, was really good. I enjoyed the storylineand the way that the movie ended. I have never seen any of these actors or actresses before, however, I think that they did a great job. Somerhalder was really cute and had gorgeous eyes. Bell had the emotions down pact. All in all, I enjoyed this movie. I like technical scares.
