New In Town

New In Town

Who's in it: Renée Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr., Siobhan Fallon

What's it about: After a long career as a leader in a big business, Lucy(Zellweger) is being sent to Minnesota to begin leading a dying business. She's met by Blanche(Fallon) who helps Lucy to her new home and offers her a warm homecooked dinner. Here she meets Ted(Connick Jr.). Ted is the local union representative. She doesn't find this out until after she's had an outburst of argument with him. She begins to fall for Ted after he saves her from a snow dune out in the middle of nowhere. The widowed Ted begins to fall for Lucy as well, but her knowing that she must fire everyone at the plant she's the head of, leaves him wondering what kind of woman Lucy really is.

What I Think: I was able to watch this at South Carolina Business Week 2009 with over 200 people in the auditorium. Even though the sound was a bit off and, with all of those kids, hard to hear, I got the whole movie. I loved Zellweger's character. She was so funny with Connick Jr. Not to mention how much I love Connick Jr. already! The two were a perfect couple on the big screen. As for the story, it was entertaining. I liked the entirety of it really. It was serious, but completely funny at the same time.

House Bunny

House Bunny

Who's in it: Anna Faris, Hugh Hefner, Emma Stone, Colin Hanks

What's it about: Shelley(Faris) has been living at the Playboy bunny mansion with Hugh Hefner(Hefner) for a long time. She has always dreamed of being the centerfold of one of the magazines. After she turns 28, she is led to believe that she is kicked out of the mansion. When she moves out of the mansion, she becomes the house mother at Zeta Alpha Zeta sorority. She meets Natalie(Stone) and her friends and decides to teach them how to be traditional college party girls. When Shelley meets Oliver(Hanks) all of her 'tricks' to win a man's heart don't work. She finds herself desperate to learn all that she can to be in love.

What I Think: This movie was really funny. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but it was enjoyable. Faris plays these kind of characters really well and I enjoy her in most of her movies. Hanks was great! I thought that he really brought out the character of Oliver and Shelley. Now, the main sorority girl, Natalie was only part of the piece. There were several different girls in Zeta Alpha Zeta, but I only named Stone's character because she played the biggest part. Hefner has got it made baby! Huge mansion, a magazine, attractive women, a clothing line, and now a movie (along with others).

Up!

Up!

Who's in it: Edward Asner, Jordan Nagai, Christopher Plummer

What's it about: Carl(Asner) has been very lonesome since his wife died. Everything around him is becoming skyscrapers, but he refuses to allow his plot to go with the flow. When he finally plans to take the house to his wife's dream vacation spot, he blows up thousands of balloons and lets them fly, lifting his house from the ground. Little did he know that a local wilderness explorer, Russell(Nagai) was on his porch when he lifted off. With his new pal, they travel to South America in attempt of dropping the house where it should be. In South America, they run into Carl's childhood hero, Charles Muntz(Plummer), who is now a desperate hunter. They must help hide the endangered bird, while keeping themselves safe.

What I Think: Pixar never ceases to amaze me. I love them to death! The animation was perfect and I didn't see anything wrong with the movie at all. The previews were to make the movie look like a comedy, but it was actually quite dramatic! There was a time or two in where I almost cried. It was a very entertaining and even educational movie. The setting of South America was interesting and I thought that the incorporation of the bird in the movie was unique. The detail was exquisite and I loved the fine details of Carl and Russell.

Because I Said So

Because I Said So

Who's in it: Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Gabriel Macht, Tom Scott

What's it about: Daphne Wilder(Keaton) has been alone for a long time. This keeps her completely in the business of her daughter, Milly(Moore). While Milly's getting older, Daphne's becomings more concerned. So concerned that she put a personal ad for her daughter. Daphne meets two men that meet her standards for Milly. Jason(Scott), a well known architect and Johnny(Macht), a jazz singer and single dad. Milly begins to fall for both, but she doesn't know that her Mom set them up with her.

What I Think: I learned very quickly that this is not a movie to watch with your little sister. I've liked Moore in most of her movies, and this one was just another of her great ones. I enjoyed the secretive side of Keaton. The Macht and Scott were perfect. They were both great looking men and they played their roles so well. I was really impressed by Keaton's performance as a completely crazy mother obsessed with her daughters life. I also loved how the movie ended. The setting of movie was pretty entertaining. I loved the interior design of both places.

Get Smart

Get Smart

Who's in it: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway

What's it about: Max(Carell) and Agent 99(Hathaway) are teamed together in order to stop a plot to blow up the president. The Russians are supposedly building nuclear weapons and Max and Agent 99 need to find where they are building the weapons. At first they aren't friendly with each other, but they find that they might actually love each other. When Max is believed to be on the Russians side, he and Agent 99 are separated. Even though everyone is surprised when the real truth comes out, Max and Agent 99 are put up against their toughest fight yet.

What I Think: Carell was hilarious and Hathaway was sexy and funny. The scene at the party was awesome! The story was a bit lacking for me but all of the funny things made up for it. The acting was pretty good. I liked the action scenes. Carell is just crazy and everyone loves him! Hathaway has come a long way from being in Princess Diaries. I think that she should be in stuff like this more often. She's much older now and she needs to be in more adult humour movies. Loved how this was based on the original series!

Little Nicky

Little Nicky

Who's in it: Adam Sandler, Harvey Keitel, Rhys Ifans, Tommy Lister, Robert Smigel, Patricia Arquette

What's it about: Nicky(Sandler) is one of the three sons of Satan(Keitel). After his father announces that he will be ruler of Hell for another 10,000 years, his brothers, Adrian(Ifans) and Cassius(Lister), go the Earth to make their own Hell. This causes their father to begin deteriorating. It's up to Nicky to go to Earth and bring his brothers back and save his father's life. He is helped by a dog named Beefy(Smigel). While on Earth, Nicky meets Valerie(Arquette) and falls in love with her. Together with Beefy, Valerie, and a few other friends he makes, Nicky is going to get his brothers back to Hell and save his father.

What I Think: Again with Adam Sandler and I love it! The story was pretty good. Since I'm Catholic, I thought it was going to be blasphemous. It was very blasphemous but I wasn't offended in any way. I loved that Ifans and Lister being completely opposite of of Nicky and how they didn't even remotely look alike. That made it even funnier. The way that Sandler's voice and face was looked ike it would be hard to stay that way and I thought that was some true talent. Keitel as Satan was hilarious! They made it so that you kind of sympathized with Satan and his family and I kind of thought that was cool.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Who's in it: Kevin James, Keir O'Donnell, Jayma Mays

What's it about: Hypoglycemia has always kept Paul Blart(James) from being in the police force. Until he can get over his illness, he works as a Mall Security Cop. He is chosen to train the new recruit to the security team, Veck(O'Donnell). Paul meets a new young woman, Amy(Mays), in the mall who sells hair extensions. After Veck puts his plan to take over the mall into play, it's up to Paul to save Amy and the other hostages. With the police and the SWAT team ready for action on the outside, Paul takes action on the inside against Veck and his thugs.

What I Think: This movie was absolutely hilarious. James just has everything that you need to be funny. His look, his voice, his personality, all is just hilarious! O'Donnell worked well with all of the other people involved and I loved his full confidence in his character. The stunts that were done during the movie were great. The mall setting really worked with the story. All of the stunts and characters just belonged there. I thought that the story lacked a little bit in connecting with James, but I think all in all it was a good movie.

Yes Man

Yes Man

Who's in it: Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel

What's it about: Carl(Carrey) has always said "No" to everything. He lost his wife and his life due to his most famous word. After attending a seminar about saying "Yes" to everything, his life begins to turn around. Even some of the bad things lead to great things. He meets an extraordinary woman named Allison(Deschanel). She doesn't know anything about his "Yes" cult. When she does find out she is forced to analyze her relationship with Carl. Carl has to find himself and what figure out the rest of his life.

What I Think: Carrey is a hoot! Deschanel helps to bring out the character. I thought it was kind of weird that Carrey, a much older man, was with Deschanel, a much younger woman. That was the only flaw I really found with the movie. The story was pretty funny and I liked the different twists that it took to get to the end. I kept expecting Carrey to say his line, "It's good. It's goooooood!!!". I guess that I really associate him with that phrase. As for the setting, I loved it! Anyways, great movie, great performance, great everything!

Bedtime Stories

Bedtime Stories

Who's in it: Adam Sandler, Courteney Cox, Jonathan Heit, Laura Kesling, Keri Russell

What's it about: As a child, Skeeter(Sandler) and his sister, Wendy(Cox), lived in their father's hotel. After is was overtaken, Skeeter was promised to be the head of it someday. 25 years later, he's still only a technician. Wendy is leaving for Arizona for a job interview and needs Skeeter to help watch over her children, Patrick(Heit) and Bobbi(Kesling). He takes the night shift while their teacher, Jill(Russell), takes them during the day. He tells them bedtime stories at night, but realizes that the stories come true somehow during the day. In an attempt to fix his life, he Skeeter tries to work their stories around to helping him.

What I Think: First off, Russell Brand was in this and I love Russell Brand! Anything with Russell Brand in it is worth watching. He's hilarious! Anyways, Sandler is also great in this film. I love the story and way that it works out. Heit and Kesling did pretty well for being children in this movie. Russell was great onscreen with Sandler. I enjoyed the plot and the different parts of the stories they told and the reenactments of the stories. They were all funny and I think that Sandler loved being all sorts of different characters during the movie.

Monster-in-Law

Monster-in-Law

Who's in it: Jennifer Lopez, Michael Vartan, Jane Fonda

What's it about: Some coincidental meetings bring Charlie(Lopez), a local temp, and Kevin(Vartan), a world famous doctor, together in an unbreakable relationship. Kevin's mother, Viola(Fonda), just was released from a mental hospital after being replaced on her talk show by a young woman. Kevin is the only family that she has left and she is determined to kick Charlie out of the picture. A fight breaks out between the two women and Kevin is unaware of the happenings that are occurring. The unbreakable relationship is now in the hands of Viola.

What I Think: This is a classic in-law movie. I loved every moment of it. You don't really understand that it's a comedy until a bit into the movie. I think that the romantic introduction really fools the viewer, but when Fonda comes into the movie, it's grand! Vartan is hardly in the movie except for just to be unknowing and to be Lopez's fiancee. I think that Lopez and Fonda made a great fighting family and the "pranks" they played on each other were great. My boyfriend and I were enjoying the continuous humour!

Failure to Launch

Failure to Launch

Who's in it: Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew McConaughey

What's it about: Tripp(McConaughey) has been living at home for the majority of his life. He's now well into adulthood and his parents want him out. When they meet up with Paula(Parker), a young woman who specializes on luring young men to move from their homes, they hire her to work her magic on their son. Paula begins to fall for Tripp, but things get ugly when Tripp finds out the truth. In a frantic attempt to save the relationship that they had, their friends combine forces to keep the two together.

What I Think: I first saw this in theatres a few years ago and I loved it. I like the story behind it and how the plot unfolds. The two don't make as good a connection as McConaughey and Hudson. I think that fact set me off the movie a little bit. I do like Parker's innocent kind of personality. This was not my favourite movie of hers. I've seen her do better and I was disappointed in this movie. As I said, great plot, but lacking in the acting department.

Bride Wars

Bride Wars

Who's in it: Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway

What's it about: Since they were young girls, Liv(Hudson) and Emma(Hathaway) have always wanted to have their weddings at the Plaza in June. When they are both finally engaged, they set up their dates and start to plan. When they find out that there was a bit of confusion and their weddings are both set for the same day, a fight begins. Liv and Emma go from best friends to arch enemies. They try to sabotage the others wedding as much as they can because they want their wedding to be over the top.

What I Think: Hudson and Hathaway were one of the best female duos I think I've ever seen. It was amazing how different they were in personality but how well they connected on screen. The story was great and planned out to the very dot. I am so happy to see Hathaway in this light and I think that it suits her more than in Princess Diaries. Hudson was just the same nutty girl that she is in a lot of movies and I love it. I was so happy in the end but kind of sad at the same time. I love happy endings and my favourite guy won in the end despite the female stars!

Monsters vs. Aliens

Monsters vs. Aliens

Who's in it: Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson

What's it about: Susan(Witherspoon) was so close to being married, but after she got hit by a meteor, she grew 50 stories tall. The government has now put her in with the group they call monsters. The Missing Link(Arnett), B.O.B.(Rogen), Dr. Cockroach(Laurie), and Insectosaurus try to help Susan feel more at home, but can never seem to make her feel better. After an alien invasion by Gallaxhar(Wilson) pursues Earth, the monsters are called to save the USA. Gallaxhar wants Susan because of the material the meteor contained so that he can clone an entire alien race.

What I Think: This movie was so hilarious. I don't think that it would've been the same without Rogen. Laurie was amazing. I love him on House because of his completely fake American accent. Here, he could use a little bit of his accent. Witherspoon made for a wonderful Susan! The animation was awesome! The storyline was great and slightly unpredictable. I loved all of the actors and actresses that lended their voices to this movie. They truely made it a great movie. I was very impressed by the accuracy in the animation for this movie.

School for Scoundrels

School for Scoundrels

Who's in it: Jon Heder, Billy Bob Thorton, Michael Clarke Duncan, Jacinda Barrett

What's it about: So many years have gone by in Roger's(Heder) life in which he's been trampled upon by other men and some women. He can never seem to make it with the ladies. After a reference to Dr. P(Thorton) and his assistant Lesher(Duncan), Roger partakes in a class with a group of other men just like him. His goal is to eventually date Amanda(Barrett) who lives on the same floor of his apartment building. The class goes through all of the basics of style and confidence to hit it off with women. Amanda meets Dr. P and it's a survival of the fittest between Roger and his teacher.

What I Think: Heder is such a good actor. Thorton has always been on my good side. Even though I didn't like his character, I liked watching him play such a man. I have never seen Barrett before but she played her part well. Each scene was planned out perfectly because I was always wondering what could possibly happen next and that's what a good movie is supposed to do. Duncan played so great and I loved every detail that was released about him by certain characters throughout the story. Suprisingly, Ben Stiller was squeezed in there. He played a short role but he made the movie as always.

Superhero Movie

Superhero Movie

Who's in it: Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald

What's it about: A school field trip to a local laboratory leaves Rick Riker(Bell) wondering what has happened to him. He begins to develop strange powers and he's slowly learning to use them. His secret sweetheart and girl next door, Jill(Paxton), is always wondering what he is doing. After Rick names himself the Dragonfly, everything seems to go south. Hourglass(McDonald) becomes the Dragonfly's arch nemisis and he is tormenting Riker's family and loved ones.

What I Think: As much as this movie was advertised, I expected it to be the funniest thing I would ever see. To me it ended up being pretty dull. Sure it had it's moments, but most of those moments were given away in previews. That's what's been happening too much these days and I don't like it. Also, I thought that there would be more movie spoofs to it, but really it was only Spiderman that the movie was spoofing. I really expected more from such actors as Bell and McDonald. I was very disappointed.

License to Wed

License to Wed

Who's in it: Mandy Moore, John Krasinski, Robin Williams

What's it about: After Sadie(Moore) and Ben(Krasinski) become engaged, they decide to get married in Sadie's church by the extremely outgoing Reverend Frank(Williams). The crazy Reverend tells them that they must first graduate from an engaged couples group to make sure that they are indeed ready to get married. When the two start to fight, Ben gets fed up and finds the most dirt on Frank that he can. After revealing this information, Sadie is only more enfuriated and breaks off the engagement.

What I Think: This movie was hilarious. I had been meaning to watch it for a long time but never really got the chance. Almost every joke had a sexual innuendo but that was alright because they were all funny. Krasinski has been appearing in a lot more things and I think that is great for him. He's a simple looking guy but he has a very funny personality that comes out in his characters. Usually I love Moore, but she was more of a minor character in this movie. Williams was his funny self as always!

Role Models

Role Models

Who's in it: Seann William-Penn, Paul Rudd, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobbe Thompson

What's it about: As an order from the court, Danny(Rudd) and Wheeler(William-Penn) are to work with Sturdy Wings. This program is for children who aren't accepted in their world. It is to help them move along in the world and learn how to make friends. Danny meets Augie(Mintz-Plasse) who is a geeky kid obsessed with dragons and Medieval times. Wheeler meets Ronnie(Thompson) who is a foul mouthed boy with a single mother. The two men teach the boys about being in the real world and how to be who they want to be.

What I Think: Again the nudity was a bit uncalled for. I didn't think that it showed any sort of point to show naked women except the first one. The entire movie was hilarious! I loved the fact that KISS played a huge part in the movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who wanted to laugh their head off for an entire movie. I was laughing pretty much from beginning to end. All of the actors were fun. I want to go to a LAIRE now. I thought that it was great and I would love the experience to be in one.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Who's in it: Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, Alexis Dziena, Ari Graynor

What's it about: Nick(Cera) and Tris(Dziena) broke up and Nick is still not over the beautiful teenager. After playing with his band one night, he is approached by Norah(Dennings). They start to hang out together and decide to go and find where their favourite band, Where's Fluffy?, is playing. Nick's friends offer to take Norah's drunk friend, Caroline(Graynor), home, but they lose her. When Nick and Norah find out about the loss, they go searching New York to find her. The bonding time has it's ups and downs, but Nick's friends think that Norah could be the cure for Tris.

What I Think: This movie was outstandingly written. Cera was as cute as ever doing the innocent boy. I thought that Dennings did a wonderful job, but I really don't see what most people see in her. Dziena was alright, but I hated her character more than anyone could know, and I'm sure that the writers had intended for that to happen. I loved the twists that occured throughout the movie and I loved the way that it ended. For any of you who do watch this movie, you have to watch the gum.

Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express

Who's in it: Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, Gary Cole

What's it about: Dale(Rogen) is a pothead. His dealer is Saul(Franco). When Saul gets a special shipment of the upcoming rage called Pineapple Express, Dale just has to have some. When Dale witnesses a murder, he throws his roach out the window and runs for it. Ted(Cole), the city's biggest dealer, is on the lookout for Dale and Saul. They meet up with their middleman, Red(McBride), who's already been threatened by Ted's people. The three of them get together in an attempt to shut Ted down as well as save their own lives.

What I Think: I originally saw this in the theatre. It was ever better a second time around. Rogen is popping up in movies everywhere. His distinct voice is even being used in animated films. I enjoy his type of comedy. Franco did an amazing dealer. He has the smile of one and the voice of one. McBride was hilarious! I would love to be him because he always gets the crazy, yet awesome, roles in films. Cole had his moments during the movie but wasn't all that great.

Cannonball Run

Cannonball Run

Who's in it: Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett

What's it about: The Cannonball Run is a race across the US and JJ(Reynolds) and Victor(DeLuise) are a team racing in an ambulance in order to go fast without too many stops. They pick up a 'patient' named Pamela(Fawcett). In their journey across America, they meet a bunch of challenges and some other teams desperate to win the race. It starts to get tricky when the police get word that the race is going on. Road blocks and car searches begin to narrow down the competition until only the clever ones remain.

What I Think: I'm not usually one for a movie like this, but my boyfriend talked me into it. It was a pretty good movie. Alot of innuendo to other things, but that made it even funnier. I enjoyed DeLuise in his role as Victor and Captain Chaos. My boyfriend and I agreed that certain characters are just made for that man. Most of the time, this movie had me laughing until my sides hurt. There were other minor roles in it that I loved. Jackie Chan was in it and he was hilarious!
